I work from nature with a live model to create classically-inspired, representational, figurative sculpture in terra cotta and cast in bronze.
I believe that the creative process must be grounded in the basics. A good understanding of proportion, gesture, and anatomy is essential. |

But, as a perfect depictation of a figure can best be captured by a photograph, an accurate representation of nature serves only as a starting place from which artistic expression and creativity spring. With an understanding of proportion and anatomy, an artist can select out certain features and forms, accentuating them while minimizing others, and create sculpture that is not only true to nature, but which also expresses the artist’s views and captures the essence, mood and feeling of the subject.
